Alan A. Fischer

Managing Partner

As Managing Partner, Alan focuses on portfolio management, asset allocation, and business strategy. With more than 40 years of experience in the finance industry, he is widely respected for his investment acumen. Prior to forming Fischer Stralem Advisors, he founded Fischer & Company and oversaw investment management and client relationships. Previously, Alan was President of the Charter Division of Wells Fargo Equipment Finance, Inc., a diversified financial services organization. He founded Charter Financial, Inc. in 1982 and served as the CEO until it was acquired by the Wells Fargo Company in October 2000. Prior to founding Charter, Alan founded Commercial Funding, Inc., a diversified equipment finance and merchant banking company, in 1973. Commercial Funding was acquired by the Nordic Group of Banks in 1982. In that same year, Alan founded A.A. Fischer & Co., an investment asset management company. The company has continually invested for its own account since inception and transitioned into Fischer & Company in 2002 when the strategic decision was made to accept outside capital.

Alan has an extensive background in the merchant banking and finance industry. He is the past Chairman of the Board of the ELA, a financial industry association comprised of more than 800 banks and financial institutions. Alan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and English from New York University’s College of Arts & Sciences. He is also a recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Alan’s philanthropic and civic activities include serving as Chairman Emeritus of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, member of the Executive Board of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Chairman Emeritus of Midori and Friends, member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and member of the Chairman’s Council of the American Ballet Theatre. He is the past President of the JCC of Mid-Westchester and past Chairman of the Banking Division of the UJA Federation.
